Flying at Reliant Kite Relay for Leukemia Lymphoma Society
The 3rd annual Reliant Kite Relay for Charity kicks off this Thursday in celebration of the Reliant Trinity River Wind Festival, which takes place this Saturday, May 18, 2013 at 146 W Commerce at the Trinity River viaduct in downtown Dallas. Reliant Energy invited me to compete by flying a kite at least 50 feet in the air while performing an array of “wind related activities at 5 stations” for a charity of my choice. Anything for charity sounds fun to me! Reliant is donating $5,000 to the winner’s charity. The charity that I will be flying for is Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) in honor of my brother who was…

A Wild Time at the San Antonio Zoo
The San Antonio Convention and Visitor’s Bureau invited my family to spend a day exploring at the San Antonio Zoological Gardens and Aquarium. I can see why it is one of the top Zoo’s in the nation with interactive exhibits like the Butterfly House, Lory Landing, Africa Live!, the Kronkosky’s Tiny Tot Nature Spot and many more. With over 8,500 animals of 779 species, San Antonio Zoo were one of the first zoos in the country to create natural habitats for the animals, also known as a “cage-less” zoo. It’s also the only Zoo in the country to have a separate children’s Zoo area, Kronkosky’s Tiny Tot Nature Spot. Designed…

Artist Moms Leave Remnants at Janette Kennedy Gallery
Presenting “Remnant,” a show of new work by Dallas-based Artists Erika Jaeggli and Sonali Khatti. A remnant is the part that is left behind after the greater part has been used, removed or destroyed. This idea is as applicable to fabric as it is to landscape and the passage of time. This exhibit will explore the concept of the remnant both literally and figuratively. The exhibit is entitled “Remnant” because their art includes remnants of mixed media. Jaeggli and Khatti are both mixed-media artists who work with actual and metaphorical remnants. Khatti embeds remnants of fabric and uses photos from her own past as reference. Jaeggli paints allegorical landscapes using remnants…

Dallas’ Best Shellfish: Spoon Bar and Kitchen
Like oysters? Prawns? Lobster? Then, Spoon Bar & Kitchen is just the place for you. Chef John Tesar knows how to make a “rockin” restaurant with amazing shellfish dishes. With classic rock music playing in the background, I wanted to savor every bite and grab for another and another one when I recently dined there for a media lunch. For starters, my table enjoyed a king crab leg (flown in from one of Tesar’s friends on the East Coast) accompanied by a rich and oceanic fish sauce, which was amazing. Brick and Basil fried Prawn with basil pesto was superb, too. Next, we thoroughly enjoy a mid-course of the Seafood…
