Get Ready to LEAP + Summit Packing List

get ready to leap + summit packing listOne week from today, we will all be together in Zagreb, Croatia. Jump head first. Stepping out of your comfort zone. YES, I am ready to LEAP into action as an official LEAP Summit blogger and life learner! Are you ready?

Get Ready to LEAP!

LEAP is an action verb. The main focus of the conference is on themes connected to innovation, IT and modern technologies, entrepreneurship, career development and life-changing stories. LEAP stands for Learn, Engage, Act, and Progress. Of course we all LEAP in our own ways and in our own time, every day, through our stories, our pursuits, our endeavors. We have different backgrounds, goals, and passions, but we all LEAP together, and that is when we are at our best. And we will be all together on Thursday to hear keynotes and attend many sessions. Get ready to LEAP into action!

Packing List

Can you believe LEAP Summit is just one week away? 1 week, guys! Thinking about that got me in the mood to par-tay. You in? Here’s a suggested packing list as you mingle with other changemakers.

Chambray top: A classic chambray button down is great for layering–as a base layer or second layer, and it’s basically a neutral.

Cardigan sweater: You want to pack at least one cardigan sweater, again, because you want as many layering options as possible. Weather in spring anywhere is unpredictable. I prefer cardigans in either grey, or black, as they go with anything you layer over them.

Black v-neck sweater: The v-neck sweater is slightly more versatile than the crew neck. Why? Crew necks can look dowdy if you layer certain things over them–such as a blazer, for example. They’re also harder to dress up. But a v-neck shows a bit more skin, and can be dressed up for a night out to dinner, and also looks great layered under a blazer, cardigan or any other type of jacket.

Striped long-sleeved tee: You’re not going to believe me, but this is going to be the one top you’ll reach for over and over again. Stripes just make your entire outfit cuter–it’s that simple! I love the long sleeved tees for travel, because they keep you warmer, but you can always roll the sleeves if you get hot.

Classic blazer: No-brainer, obviously. Layers. LAYERS. You get it, right? A blazer is an ultra-polished outer layer that works great if your weather is warmer than planned, and also is a great under layer below a coat if necessary. It also looks extra sharp for conferences like LEAP.

Black v-neck tee: Again, a black v-neck is about the most versatile item you can pack. You can get away with wearing a black v-neck with your statement earrings and chic ballet flats for dinner. Another color, however, is much harder to dress up. (For example, pink? No way.)

Dark skinny jeans: Dark skinnies are a must, because they show the least amount of dirt, and are also great for going out at night. You can easily get away with one pair of jeans the whole time.

Boyfriend jeans: I like the extra “oomph” that boyfriend jeans lend to an outfit. I think they have a lot more personality than regular skinny jeans, and at times, are certainly more comfortable.

Ponte pants: They feel like leggings, but are significantly more durable and polished looking. They’ll keep you much warmer than leggings, and again, can look significantly more dressy when you don’t want to wear jeans.

Striped shift dress: A nice alternative to jeans, I’d recommend throwing at least one shift dress in your bag–they’re perfect for LEAP Summit. Make sure to choose a style that looks great with all three of your footwear options, and throw in a pair of opaque tights in case it gets chilly.

Black ankle booties: Booties look cute, provide great support, and are durable no matter what the weather. I prefer ankle booties to riding boots personally because I think they’re a bit more versatile. You can wear them with dresses and boyfriend jeans, for example–something you probably wouldn’t be able to do with standard riding boots.

Converse sneakers: Being on your feet all day, you’ll often want to trade off the type of shoe you’re wearing each day. Converse provide a great alternative to boots, and look cute with jeans, dresses, whatever.

Ballet flats: I love the lace-up flats! If ballet flats aren’t your thing, chic loafers are another excellent option!

Backpack OR Crossbody: Something else you probably think I’m crazy for saying, but you only need one purse. REALLY. I promise. I prefer (wait for it) black, but as long as you ensure it goes with everything you’re bringing, choose whatever color you’d prefer! I would strongly recommend either a cross-body bag or a mini backpack which you can put your LEAP Summit schedule, business // contact cards and notebook for note-taking.

Simple statement studs: Bring one pair of statement studs that are still relatively simple in case you’d like to dress up your black v-neck sweater for dinner, but you’ll likely need little else.

Silk Scarf: Silk scarves are the easiest way to dress up a simple outfit. Your packing list is not complete without one! Plus, they add some extra warmth! Choose a color that compliments the rest of your items, but is enough to look pretty!

Red lipstick: Aside from a silk scarf, the best way to look polished is with a classic, red lip. Lips always have the tendency to get extra chapped and dry during travel, so you’ll want something that still provides some moisture while looking great at the same time.

PACKING TIPS: When packing, roll your clothing! You can fit significantly more clothing in your bag than with folding. Plus, it minimizes wrinkles. Don’t wait until the last minute! Last minute scrambling always results in stuffing extra items in that you don’t need! If you forget something, you can always buy it there. 🙂

Tomorrow = Last Day to secure your ticket at LEAP!

Tomorrow is the final day to buy your tickets to LEAP Summit, so don’t forget to make one the SMARTEST decision of your life, if you haven’t already. See you there! Make sure to say HOWDY, too. Don’t be shy, as I never meet a stranger. 😉

How to Wear Boots This Spring

We like to think of spring as the most appropriate time to invest in new shoes, as we are cleaning out our closet. We prefer investing in shoes that we can wear year-round, like boots. Yes, you do not just have to wear them in the fall into winter. With many styles of boots, you have many options from booties to rain boots to the classic cowboy cowgirl boots. Not to mention, the warm air inspires us to create outfits with a little more flavor. 😉 And, we believe the foundation of real posh look starts with solid footwear.

To encourage a closet refresh, we curated a list of four ways to wear boots this season, all of which are surely bolder than the ones you’ve tried before.

#1. Western boots and colorful socks can also be paired together quite comfortably this spring.boots_socksThere’s nothing that quite tickles our fancy like well-paired socks and cowgirl boots. Not only will the socks make wearing your bot comfortable, but a peek of the knitted accessory over the top of your boots adds interest to your outfit.

#2. We see a lot of boots this spring that allow for breathing room with holes all over or a mesh creation.King_Ranch_BootiesGo for boho chic look. White off-shoulder top with belted midi white skirt or skinnies team up well with these boots.

#3. Vibrant shades of leather boots are a common look for the spring 2017 shoe trends.King_Ranch_Color_BootsWhether tucked into a pair of jeans or styled with a skirt, vibrant colored boots makes any outfit pop. Go bold this season!

#4. Snakeskin looks pretty amazing as a bootie this spring, or you can play with the option of the combination of simple leather and snakeskin boots.snakeskin_bootsBlack boots are great, but snakeskin boots are so much cooler. Look and feel like a rocker this season!

Whether we are looking at the square toes or the rounded versions, warm weather boots are a real thing and the colors are what make them attractive for the real posh moms in the world. How will you be wearing your boots this season?

Fall Fashion Trends 2016!

Labor Day has come and gone and fall is officially only a couple of weeks away.  Even though it may still feel like summer it’s never too early to be thinking about the trending fall fashion statement that you can make with that next purchase.  Some of these trends you may have already in your closet!

Florals – If you’re like me you may not be a huge fan of florals but they are super popular this Fall and I’m willing to give it a try!  A lot of designers are using it in everything from sweatshirts to skirts and long dresses.  I’ve already invested in a couple of tops to pair with jackets and jeans.fall-florals-trend

Pantsuits – Not since I worked in an office years ago have I owned more than one pantsuit at a time but I think it’s time to invest in a new one!  The right pantsuit is a very sharp statement and will take you from daytime to night with one outfit.fall-pantsuits
Off-the-Shoulder – This trend was very popular in Spring 2016 and it’s not going away this Fall.  Many designers have it in their line – blouses AND dresses.  Think Farmer’s Daughter goes to the Big City.

fall-trend-off-the-shoulder
Plaid – Plaid Plaid and more Plaid!!  All the major labels were showing plaid at New York Fashion Week – coats, skirts, and even cocktail dresses.fall-2016-trends-plaid
Velvet –  I’m pretty sure that I’ve re-homed most of the velvet that I had left in my closet but I have to say I am loving some of the looks for Fall.fall-2016-velvet-trend
Sherling Jackets – Shearling is back this Fall in different styles and colors such as brown, black, tan, and even blue.  fall-2016-bomber-jackets
Chokers – Don’t tell me that you don’t have at least one choker in your jewelry box left over from the 90’s.   I’m so glad I held on to mine because they’re back.  Fat, skinny, shiny – it doesn’t really matter, just tie something around your neck and it will give your outfit that added pop!fall-choker-trend
Trending Colors:
Tan – lots of tan everywhere!  It always makes a classic statement.fall-tan-color-trend
Pink and Yellow – Together!  I would never had put these two together but I’m a fan.
fall-2016-pink-and-yellow
Pumpkin Spice – Nothing says fall like pumpkins and the color Pumpkin Spice is hot hot hot this year!   Almost every designer’s collection has it included in their line.  The muted color can be paired with back, blue and tan and will work with most skin tones.fall-pumpkin-spice
Burgundy, Maroon, Merlot –  Whatever you want to call it – it’s everywhere!  And if your son just started school at Texas A&M where Maroon is the school color and rules everything – this is one happy Mom. fall-merlot-burgundy-maroon-e1451366712111

If you don’t have any of these fall trends already in your closet, you’re welcome,  I just gave you an excuse to go shopping!

TREND REPORT: New York Fashion Week Fall 2016 Trends

What Every Tween to Teen Girl Needs. PERIOD.

This past weekend, I took my daughter on our annual mother/daughter getaway. This is a time where we eat lots of sweets, stay up late and talk a lot about dreams, aspirations and just life. Speaking of life, my daughter is 11 now, and I am aware that girls can start going through puberty, so it was time for me to start to have the PERIOD conversation. *sigh* Can time slow down right about now?! Ok, ok…back to reality. There’s nothing worse than getting your period when you are not expecting it, especially for your first time, so it is my job as the mom to get my girl prepare for life as a woman – especially since it is all a new experience.

So, during our trip, I decided to take a break from our shopping trip and stop in Müller drugstore. It was time to have a bag filled with everything she needs for that awkward or unexpected moment. This way, if I am not around to help her out, my daughter will never be caught without protection. Here’s what we packed – all the essentials a girl needs to prevent that embarrassing moment.

Cosmetic Bag
Bath & Body Works Sanitizing Hand Gel
Deodorant
Kleenex® On-the-go
Feminine Pads like Always
Lip Smacker

P.S. There’s a new trend of products called period panties like PantyProp. I have never used them, BUT I have heard amazing things about them, especially for tweens and teens.

Puberty comes earlier and earlier for girls these days. Make sure you tween or teen is never stranded without the essentials. PERIOD. 🙂

Nursing Tanks for Mothers In Need #DoGoodGiveGoods

SupportHerDreamI am briefly coming out of my seclusion with the most beautiful 7-week-old little girl in the world (just try to argue with me), so that I can tell you about a soon-to-be-ending campaign that is close to my heart. There is no denying the benefits of nursing our babies, but it is rarely easy. It can be even more difficult for mothers who struggle with getting those little luxury items that make it easier, like nursing wear.

Breastfeeding is a hot topic right now. Maybe it always has been, but of course it’s something that I am suddenly giving very close attention. What I know is that my personal breastfeeding journey with my new baby is very different from the one I had with my now 7-year-old daughter. My life is different now. I am older and better informed. With my first daughter, living in fast-paced New York City, working full-time in a job that required frequent travel, being the sole breadwinner of the family and returning to work only five weeks after her birth, the situation was not optimal. Although formula was more expensive, it allowed me to work the long uninterrupted hours that my job required, and it at least gave me the peace of mind that my daughter would be fed, regardless of whether I could make that flight or that train. It broke my heart to give up breastfeeding only six weeks after her birth, but frankly she is a thriving young girl who insists she was not traumatized in any way whatsoever by my choice. By the way, it still does not alleviate my mom guilt and probably never will.

However, this time I have been very blessed and very lucky, in that I have had the luxury of time, the patience of age and the support from my family to focus on breastfeeding. And even with all of that, it’s not easy. Even little things – a good nursing pillow, water // snacks within arms reach, a private place to feed (if that’s important to you) and having good nursing tops // bras make a big difference when it comes to keeping with your goal of breastfeeding your baby.

One of the pieces that I credit with making my experience so positive this time around is my Bravado nursing tank. It is not easy to be comfortable in those first postpartum days and weeks (need I go into details ladies?), so I appreciated the soft yet stretchy fabric, the hip-length and roomy tummy area, the supportive straps and the foam inserts. I also appreciated, and continue to do so, that it is more flattering than a lot of nursing wear. And, the full drop-away cups help to maximize skin-to-skin contact while nursing, still providing some discretion.

But, my absolute favorite thing about Bravado nursing tanks right now : Bravado’s “Support Her Dream” Campaign to Donate 10,000 Nursing Tanks to support new mothers in need.

You never know what factors are keeping a woman from realizing her breastfeeding goals, even something as seemingly simple as nursing wear. With every purchase of the NEW Bravado Dream Nursing Tank ($55 US // $60 CAD) through April at BravadoDesigns.com and national // specialty retailers, Bravado will donate a nursing tank to Good+ Foundation to help ensure moms in need have a successful start to their breastfeeding journey. The donation goal of 10,000 nursing tanks is valued at nearly half a million dollars and will be distributed to Good+ Foundation, which serves throughout North America.

Having or not having those little things could either encourage or discourage a new mom in need to keep up with her breastfeeding goals. Maybe after struggling for weeks, it’s discomfort and aggravation that finally make her give up. We all know the advantages of breastfeeding our babies, so why not do what we can to support her?

I know that this is late notice. Blame the 7-week-old bundle of perfection sleeping next to me right now. But if you or a friend could use a new nursing top, this is the one to get. Join @bravadodesigns @GOODPlusFdn and help new moms in need. Buy a Tank, Give a Tank. BravadoDesigns.com

Now excuse me. Somebody’s hungry.

Batman V Superman? Let the Kids Decide!

In two weeks, the battle is on when Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice comes to theaters on March 25, 2016! The Children’s Place is partnering up with Batman & Superman to treat one lucky winner to a heroic family trip to Los Angeles with VIP Warner Bros. Studio tour passes. Click here to enter! The-Childrens-Place-Batman-V-Supermanbatman-v-superman-kidsNot only can you enter to win, but you can also find apparel for your kids to support their favorite superhero. GRAND PRIZE INCLUDES:
· 4 roundtrip airfare tickets to Los Angeles & complimentary ground transportation to/from LAX
· Hotel accommodations for 3 nights
· 4 VIP Warner Bros. Studio tour passes
· $200 gift card to The Children’s Place

This video also features another contest, but it gives back to the community. If you donate, you could win a prize package that includes a trip to the Los Angeles premiere of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, a ride in the Batmobile with Ben Affleck, a ride in a helicopter with Henry Cavill and an opportunity to “photo bomb” the Red Carpet at the premiere.

Now, your kids may not necessarily care about the moral differences between Batman and Superman. Let’s be honest, some of them will not be seeing this movie in the theater (rated PG-13), BUT they undoubtedly have participated in conversations like this one. “Who do you think would win in a fight between Batman and Superman?” or “Which superhero is cooler?” I have to admit that I am #TeamSuperman because well Henry Cavill…oh, and Batman is Ben Affleck. Also maybe it’s because of my love for Kryptonians by watching Supergirl on CBS.

Post below which one you // they are cheering for! 🙂

Can it get any better? Planet Blue opened its doors July 2nd in their first Texas location – in DALLAS!  And the location is great!   The clothing store is located in the Knox-Henderson neighborhood that was already a pretty cool area but just got even cooler with this new retail addition.  The store has an open, airy, and earthy like atmosphere with plenty of room to shop.   If you’re not familiar with Planet Blue, it’s a Bohemian Fashion retail store that carries a wide range of women’s Bohemian inspired brands such as Blue Life, For Love and Lemons, Stone Cold Fox, Nightcap and many others.  The store carries everything from tops, shorts, jumpsuits, sweaters, skirts, dresses, and leggings to bathing suits and lingerie.

Planet Blue 2

Planet Blue 3 “Texans get it,” Vice President of Retail David Lindell said in a news release. “You can take fashion seriously, without taking yourself too seriously. It’s all about looking good, while having a good time doing it. We see the Dallas customer in our store daily and also feel their strong support in our online business, so we can’t wait to return the love by bringing the good vibes to Knox-Henderson.”  After meeting Mr. Lindell at the opening I believe he does get us in Dallas.  One question I had for him though was “What took you so long to get here”?!  I personally love the California Bohemian style and always enjoy shopping at their store when I’m in California.   I believe Texans will love it too!
