A Wild Time at the San Antonio Zoo

IMG_3228The San Antonio Convention and Visitor’s Bureau invited my family to spend a day exploring at the San Antonio Zoological Gardens and Aquarium. I can see why it is one of the top Zoo’s in the nation with interactive exhibits like the Butterfly House, Lory Landing, Africa Live!, the Kronkosky’s Tiny Tot Nature Spot and many more.
IMG_3243 With over 8,500 animals of 779 species, San Antonio Zoo were one of the first zoos in the country to create natural habitats for the animals, also known as a “cage-less” zoo. It’s also the only Zoo in the country to have a separate children’s Zoo area, Kronkosky’s Tiny Tot Nature Spot. Designed for kids 5 and under, Kronkosky’s Tiny Tot Nature Spot encourages your kids to can run off some of that extra energy, climb on a tortoise, get their feet wet in the riverbank and hang upside down like a sloth.
IMG_3297 Tour the Amazonia, by crossing over the wood bridge and see tropical animals, such as monkeys, macaws and even a few sloths, which is the posh boy’s favorite, residing in a habitat that features tropical plants like orchids and bromeliads.
IMG_3260 From the Amazon, move on the Africa Live!, which showcases some of the planet’s most unusual animals. One of things that really stuck out to me about the San Antonio Zoo was how it has been designed in such a manner that you will feel as if you have been transported to this majestic continent.
AfricaLive! The San Antonio Zoo is open 365 days a year from 9AM to 5PM, with the ideal time to visit being first thing in the morning. I find that most animals are active in the morning, so it is the best time to see their personalities. For more pictures from my trip to the zoo, check out my Google+ album here.
