On The Border Brings Cheer!

As a cheer coach, I recognize that this time of the year can be stressful. Having completed football season and now the change of routine with basketball season, cheerleaders can starts to lose focus. Being stressed can produce negative energy within a squad. Having fun and connecting the cheerleaders was just what we needed to promote team spirit.

I wasn’t sure if we should have a team dinner at a restaurant. They love to eat out, but between the wait time to sit at a table and having a long enough table where we could actually have a conversation made this choice less desirable. Then, On The Border Catering informed about their services and delivery options. I immediately ordered appetizers, tacos, beans, rice and sopapillas and scheduled a delivery after one of our practices. The girls were completely surprised and devoured some delicious Mexican food.

The girls sat around in the gym eating, laughing and talking…and talking…and talking. They congratulated all the girls who have done recent accomplishments outside of cheer like outside jobs, awards and competitions. They talked about getting together more for dinners away from games and practices to get to know each other better. As a coach and mentor, these times are sweet and memorable.

I encourage you if you are a coach or mentor of a group to plan some fun outside of your activity. Reward the members for their hard work. This will bring you and them closer to one another!
