Real Posh Mom Goes Country, Urban Style

Johnny Lee and Me Final

How better to celebrate the 35th Anniversary of the movie and cultural phenomena “Urban Cowboy” then to go to a Johnny Lee and the Urban Cowboy Band Concert?  That’s just what I did last weekend!  The concert was part of this summer’s Castle Hills’ Spring Concert Series in Lewisville, Texas.  It was a fun night filled with nostalgic country music in a beautiful, neighborhood venue shared with old friends.   What a big thrill it was to meet Mr. “Lookin’ for Love” himself, Johnny Lee.  His huge hit is one of the top 100 country songs of all time and was the musical centerpiece of the ‘80s classic movie “Urban Cowboy”.  Johnny still sounds great and continues to perform with his band around the country.  He remains a favorite with country music fans old and young alike because of his classic country hit songs (he’ll be releasing some new music soon) and his crowd pleasing concerts.

Urban Cowboy35 years after the huge movie hit, “Urban Cowboy”  Texas Monthly magazine is featuring the story behind the movie in this month’s issue.  The article includes lots of juicy tidbits from several of Gilley’s country musicians and key players.

Fun Facts:   The movie itself was based on an article that author Aaron Latham wrote for Esquire magazine about the world of country music and it’s cliente at the infamous Gilley’s bar in Pasadena, Texas (outside Houston). The popularity of the mechanical bull and country music exploded after the movie was released in 1980.  John Travolta’s already successful movie career skyrocketed to a new height.  If you weren’t a country music fan before the movie came out, you were for sure afterwards.   The whole country rushed out and bought cowboys boots and shirts and learned to how to dance the Two Step and the Cotton Eyed Joe.   Almost everyone agrees that country music was changed forever after the “Urban Cowboy” craze.

Watch the story on CMT’s upcoming special “About Urban Cowboy: The Rise and Fall of Gilley’s” this Saturday, June 13th 8:00/9:00 Central.
