Based on the publishing phenomenon, PERCY JACKSON: SEA OF MONSTERS continues the young demigod’s epic journey to fulfill his destiny. To save their world, Percy and his friends must find the fabled and powerfully magic Golden Fleece. Embarking on a treacherous odyssey into the uncharted waters of the Sea of Monsters (known to humans as the Bermuda Triangle), they battle terrifying creatures, an army of zombies, and the ultimate Evil.
Now, what age will your child enjoy this action-adventure flick? This PG-rated movie has some intense scenes with some creatures that could produce nightmarish images for younger kids. You know best how are adverse to “scary” scenes your kids are, but I took my 6 year-old boy and 8 year-old girl, and my eldest LOVED the movie and wasn’t frightened while my son “didn’t like” scorpion-apes’ pointed tails. By the way, “didn’t like,” means they scared him. Overall, it entertained the whole family.
It’s no surprise that in PERCY JACKSON: SEA OF MONSTERS, you see bravery and a willingness to sacrifice for others. What is surprising is just how much emphasis the film places on those themes, as well as accompanying morals dealing with humility, forgiveness, second chances and the importance of fathers, however imperfect they may be. Much more so than the first film, there are positive and at times genuinely moving themes woven into this story about an adolescent demigod courageously seeking to save a friend…and the world.
