Mockingbird Taproom Offers Burgers & Wings

Burgers are a Texas staple. I have enjoyed many types, shapes and sizes of burgers in my lifetime, and I may have one of my favorites. Last night, I was invited to the newly opened Mockingbird Taproom, located in Mockingbird Station (hence, the name). The restaurant includes everything from wild game to, oddly enough, tiramisu.

Mockingbird Taproom offers bold appetizers and wings. You can enjoy a mild flavor of “Year of the Dragon” to a medium “Classic Buffalo.” There’s a spicier level called “Y.G.H.U.T.” that stands for You’re Gonna Hate Us Tomorrow. It requires a waiver, and I try to see if it really was hot, and “YES!” it is, made with habanero and ghost chili. For your meal, Mockingbird Taproom offers sandwiches, tacos and, of course, burgers. The “Texas Slammer” burger comes topped with brisket chili and jalapeños, and “Vader’s Revenge” burger boasts a black-pepper crust and two fried eggs. It had a great ambiance with exposed ceiling and wood floor & walls plus 20 flat screen TVs playing sports.

But, let me get back to my original point, my favorite dish was the “Greektown” burger. It is a beef patty topped with cherry pepper relish, goat cheese, cucumber, spinach and tomato. What made the burger unforgettable was the goat cheese – very creamy and not overpowering. The other toppings freshen up the burger begging me for another bite.
