Every Product Has a Story to Tell
Established by the Dominican monks shortly after 1221, Farmaceutica di Santa Maria Novella is one of the oldest pharmacies in the world. Starting out with cultivating and growing herbs which they needed to prepare medications, balms and creams for the monastery’s infirmary.
Among the early creations were tonics reflecting the sensibility of the times: the imaginatively named “Vinegar of the Seven Thieves,” for example, was a popular remedy for women suffering from “fainting fits.” The vinegar is still available for those in need of a quick pick-me-up. Also available to Florentine ladies was a concoction designed to calm “hysterical women.” It, too, is still on the shelves, bearing the name Santa Maria Novella Water—now recommended for its “antispasmodic properties.”
In 1612, it was decided that the pharmacy should be opened to the public. Presently, the tradition is being carried on with unaltered success. Production is limited and is meticulously controlled. Only the highest quality natural ingredients are used, and the procedures continue the founding father’s tradition.
After visiting the local LAFCO Store, I applied the lotions, smelt the perfumes, but I wondered if this “pharmacy” had a shaving cream that could “heal” the Real Geek Dad‘s sensitive skin. A good after shave balm should have many attributes, be able to rejuvenate skin, soothe, protect, relieve redness and irritation. Not only that, a good after shave balm should leave skin thoroughly hydrated. I expect a lot you say? Indeed, yes. And why not? Real Posh Mom doesn’t settle for anything less.
Santa Maria Novella Crema Pre-dopo Barba is suprisingly thicker than what you expect and melts right into your skin without any residue. It recommends using it before and after shaving. It provides an amazingly protective shave and after for the ultimate soothing and hydrating effects.
Spoil someone you love this holiday…they won’t be disappointed!
