World on Fire

Last night, I had the privilege to see Sarah McLachlan perform against the backdrop of the Dallas Symphony for Vogel Alcove Childcare Center for the Homeless. A few songs into her performance, she sang “World on Fire,” which was written “to show how easy it can be to use your wealth to help make immeasurable improvements in people’s lives.” It brought to mind my own story of how simple obedience to God continues to lead to extraordinary experiences that I could have never imagined. I believe we all have amazing things we can do for God, if we’ll only obey.

Tears blurred my vision fourteen years ago as I stared out the airplane window, avoiding the gaze of the stranger next to me. Part of me would never be the same as I thought of the people that had won my heart during the war in Kosovo. My heart had fallen in love there, figuratively and literally. It was there that I met my future husband, and it was there that I discovered my purpose in life: saving souls.
jeff-n-jenn14 My family and I will soon be leaving from the comforts of America to live a life of helping others abroad. Why are we doing this? Well, for one, I have loved to explore new places, cultures and languages. Fortunately, I married to a man with the same loves. We also are blessed with two kids who are ready to join this adventure. Another reason is in the Bible, Luke 12:48 states: “From everyone who has been given much, much will be demanded; and from the one who has been entrusted with much, much more will be asked.”

Many years have passed since that airplane ride back to the states. In that time, I married the Real Geek Dad, we both finished our college education, had two beautiful children and learn a lot through our nonprofit and professional work. We know that more will indeed be required of us because God has given us a great task for the future. The time is now, and we cannot wait to see what the future holds.

Yes, I have pangs of momentary anxiety of the changes that my family will be experiencing, and we will face a truly overwhelming task, but I have great hope. It is that hope that I share with you to bring what I am able.
