Mary Poppins Flies Into Dallas
One of my favorite Disney movies as a child was “Mary Poppins,” and I am excited to see the movie come to the stage. Starting today, Dallas Summer Musicals brings “Mary Poppins – The Musical” to The Music Hall at Fair Park in Dallas. Tonight, my family will have a jolly time with Mary, Bert and the Banks family. To get in the mood, we have been singing “Chim Chim Cher-ee,” “A Spoonful of Sugar” and “Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious.”
Based on P.L. Travers’ original Mary Poppins books, the stage show is more serious than the beloved 1964 Disney film although the basic story is the same. The Banks household, led by workaholic Mr. Banks and his eager-to-please wife, has trouble keeping a nanny for young Michael and Jane until magical Mary Poppins comes to town. Not only does she guide the children on the right path, she teaches the adults a thing or two.
The real magic of “Mary Poppins” is the two messages for the kids and the adults. “Be good children, and treat your parents well.” For adults, remember there’s more to life than making money — and that good parenting is the most worthwhile endeavor of all.
“Mary Poppins – The Musical” will be playing at the musical Hall at Fair Park in Dallas until March 30, 2013. You can purchase your tickets here. Sweep up your family for a fun, high-flying musical that the New York Post gives 4 out of 4 stars and calls “a certifiable super hit!”
